NMC Registration & the Ocean Terminal Vaccine Drop-in Clinic
My full registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Council has now been formally re-established. I am back on the full nursing register. Well I never expected that. I will now be able to stay on the register until Feb 2025. If intermittent vaccinations continue over that period I could even extend beyond that date for further three years but I think probably not! I need to relearn the habits of full retirement as I keep stumbling towards new possible job activities (see later for details!).
Meanwhile I commenced at Ocean Terminal at the start of February and it has been mostly quite quiet. It is located in the shop unit formerly held by French Connection and still has some glossy model pictures on the walls.
We see about 100 to 160 people per day, mostly drop-ins and mostly boosters, but as there are usually at least 4 or 5 vaccinators it is not particularly onerous. At this rate I will be happy to give it up at the of my contract at the end of March.
In an ideal world I would be happy to continue with occasional bank shifts or an annualised hours contract if that fitted with the needs of the vaccination service. However that would depend on getting access to a staff bank or renewed and flexible contract, neither of which seem very likely at the moment.
It has been announced that a further booster vaccination will be offered to the over 75s and the clinically vulnerable in the next few weeks. It would also seem likely that, notwithstanding the possible emergence of a new and problematic Covid-19 variant, there will be a booster dose of vaccine offered to a similar cohort of people that would normally be eligible for a flu vaccine next winter. So, while the summer period may not require too many vaccinators, the autumn/winter season may well need a few more.
In the meantime I have looked into getting another temporary and part-time job with the forthcoming Scottish Census! We’ll see what comes of that but the details will not be covered here.
I expect I will have one more blog on this topic shortly after the end of my contract next month.
